When you add a section to your bundle, you will see all the current published headings, clauses and guidance for that section. You can add new clauses into the section.

Add a new clause

  1. In the centre editing panel, scroll to an existing clause.
    1. In content sets where the clause codes are automatically numbered, such as NMS and SureSpec, to ensure the new clause is added in the right place you need to add it from a neighbouring clause.
    2. In content sets where you can edit the clause code, such as CAWS Prelims and CAWS Work sections, the clauses and headings appear in code order. This means you can add a new clause from anywhere in the section.
  2. To the left of the existing clause title, select the 3 dots to open the clause menu.
  3. Select Insert new item above or Insert new item below:

The New clause dialog box will open.
  4. Add a Title. The default title is ‘New clause’.

    1. In content sets where the clause codes are automatically numbered, such as NMS and SureSpec, there is only the Title field to complete:

    2. In content sets where you can edit the clause code, such as CAWS Prelims and CAWS Work sections, the clauses and headings appear in code order. Add the correct code for where you want the clause to appear in the section.

Note: It doesn’t matter if you selected Insert new item above or Insert new item below from the 3 dot menu – Chorus will place the clause in the correct code sequence.

  5. Please ignore the Summary schedule tag checkbox.

  6. Select Save.

    1. The section will update and you will see your new clause in the correct place in the section sequence.

    2. By default, the clause will use the default clause template for the context.

You can now customize the new clause to fit your needs.

For more information on working with clauses, see these articles:

Template clauses in Uniclass work sections

Note: This applies to Uniclass work sections only.

The published Uniclass tables contain a mix of codes we have authored clauses for, and codes where there is currently no NBS content. In Chorus, when a customer adds a code to their spec that has no NBS authored content, a template clause is added for that code instead.

In a Uniclass work section in a bundle, any existing template clauses will:

  • Have a file emoji after the clause title.
  • Show the default clause structure for that type of clause e.g. system outline.
  • Show the default clause guidance.

Convert a template clause into an authored clause

From time to time, we’ll want to extend the NBS authored content to include a code that is currently covered by a template.

  1. In your bundle, use the ‘Add content’ search or browse to find the template clause.
  2. Add the template clause to your bundle. A Uniclass section for all the clauses in that area will be added to your bundle.
  3. Open that Uniclass section for edit.
  4. Scroll to the template clause you want to convert.
  5. Select the clause to check it out exclusively to you.
  6. Remove the template file icon from the clause suffix:
    1. At the end of the clause title, select the pencil icon. This opens the Edit details dialog box:
      A screenshot of a computer
Description automatically generated

    2. In the suffix field, delete the file emoji:

    3. Select Save
    4. Edit the clause and clause guidance as usual.
Note: You must remove the file emoji for the clause to publish as authored content. If you make edits to the clause but fail to remove the file emoji, when the bundle is released, the clause will remain a template and the customers will not see your authored content.

Known limitations

  • You cannot create a new clause by copy/ pasting an existing clause. We have additional work to do to ensure that, when you do this, the clause and its elements are unique. This is important to ensure content update notifications work correctly for the customers.
  • In Uniclass,  Description row is not created by default. The customer-facing Summary schedules feature reports the values of description rows. For more on this feature, see the customer-facing support article on Summary schedules.
  • If you want to convert a Uniclass template clause into an authored clause, you must remove the file emoji from the clause suffix. If you make edits to the clause but fail to remove the file emoji, when the bundle is released, the clause will remain a template and the customers will not see your authored content.
  • If there is more than one clause with the same Uniclass WS code, e.g. an authored clause and a template, you cannot currently fix the duplication using bundles; it requires a data fix. Please contact support to resolve this issue.

Note: In CAWS content, Description was added to accommodate the clause heading value lists function from NBS Building which Chorus does not have. It has since been decided to add Description items to all Type and Product clauses to suit the summary schedule functionality. Authors are asked not to delete the Description item from those clauses. They must also not include any other row with Description as the only key word as this may be included in the summary schedule if it is the first use of that word in the clause. Subsequent uses of the word Description will not be included, it is only the FIRST use that is included.
