We have made several improvements to NBS Source to highlight CO₂ emissions data embodied carbon (production stage A1-A3 as defined in BS EN 15804) to help provide key sustainability information and comparisons to help Specifiers make informed product choices.
We have introduced the normalisation of units to show both the most common declared unit values and normalised values per kg, which means that accurate comparisons can be made for emissions data across different unit values. A nested tab will be present to allow you to choose whether to view the normalised unit or common unit on the modal.
When a specifier is browsing NBS Source, at the third and fourth level of categorization, we have added a new blue banner which shows Industry Average Data for embodied carbon and recycled content. An example third-level category is ‘paving units’, an example fourth-level category is ‘concrete flags’. When the banner is selected this opens a pop-up with a summary of embodied carbon values in this category. This information can also be exported.
This banner will only show on these landing pages if there are five products or more within this category with embodied carbon values. In addition, these products must be from two or more manufacturers.
This summary contains industry averages for embodied carbon (calculated from data provided by manufacturers in NBS Source) presented in a table, comparing product categories or subcategories with the average embodied carbon within that category. Also highlighted are the range and number of products in the calculation, as well as the ability to show the normalised values as well as the common unit values for other unit types not in kg CO₂e/kg.
The display shows lowest average score first to the highest.
A tag representing ‘Lower emissions’ is highlighted beside embodied carbon values on product pages where this value is lower than the average within this category on Source.
If you have embodied carbon information for your products, add it to the Partner Platform to be included in this feature on NBS Source.
