Opening the NBS Plugin for Autodesk Revit
- Select the NBS tab from the ribbon and select the Specification button highlighted below
- You should now be prompted to Sign-In to NBS Chorus.
Associating Spec to Model
- Once signed in, navigate to the specification you wish to associate with this model, select the three-dot menu to the left of the specification and select Associate with model.
- Now that the specification has been associated with the model, you can continue to associate objects with clauses in NBS Chorus.
Associating Uniclass Systems/Products to your model
- First, select the object in your model you wish to associate, then navigate to the relevant clause within your specification and select the three-dot menu on the left, then select click Associate with model.
- A window will then appear to ask if you want to associate this clause with the whole object or part of the build up of the object (i.e. Materials). This enables you to associate a system with the whole object, you can then associate products with the different elements used to build up the object.
- Once you have selected the desired clause, click the Associate Now option and the clause will then be associated with your object.
An icon will appear next to the clause to indicate the clause is associated to an object:
Associating CAWS clauses to your model
- First, select the object in your model you wish to associate, then navigate to the relevant section within your specification and select the three-dot menu on the left, then select Associate with model.
- A window will then appear to ask if you want to associate this clause with the whole object or part of the build up of the object (i.e. Materials). This enables you to associate a section with the whole object, you can then associate clauses with the different materials used to build up the object.
- Once you have selected either the object or the material from the list select the Next Step option. You will then be directed to a page where you can select either the Section as a whole, or the clauses within the section and associate one with the object.
- Once you have selected the desired clause, click the Associate Now option and the clause will then be associated with your object.
- An icon will appear next to the clause to indicate the clause is associated to an object:
Information inserted into model
After the association between the spec and the object/family in the model is made the below information is inserted into the object properties:
- NBSChorusCode
- NBSChorusPrefix
- NBSChorusTitle
- NBSChorusSuffix
- NBSChorusDescription – the Chorus article or clause 'Description.
- NBSChorusManProdURL – the supplier's product listing URL in NBS Source or Archify.
- NBSChorusManName – the article or clause 'Manufacturer', 'Supplied by' or 'Supplier'.
- NBSChorusProdRef – the article or clause 'Product reference'.
- NBSChorusCategory – the IFC identifier (the full article or clause code and title, separated by a colon).
- NBSSchema – the version of the Chorus association schema.
You can view this information within the object/family by selecting the object/family in your model then selecting Edit Type from the Properties panel:
Scroll down to view the inserted information:
IMPORTANT: If the information that has been inserted by NBS Chorus is edited within Revit those changes will not be flagged in NBS Chorus.Annotating the model
- You can find the tag locations by selecting the NBS tab in Revit and clicking the BIM Tools icon and selecting NBS Tags:
- The tags for displaying information from NBS Chorus can be found in the NBS Chorus folder
- Within this folder you will find both Multicategory tags (Tags for when an association is made to a whole object/family) and Material tags (For tagging the individual layers that build up a family, i.e. layers of a wall) for each classification. You must ensure you load in the correct tag files for the classification in use.
- Once you have located the correct tag files, simply drag and drop the file into your model.
- Navigate to the Annotate tab and select either the multi-category or material tag option
- You can then hover over the object in your model with an association and the tag will be placed
Fixing discrepancies between you model and specification
- If after associating a clause in my spec to an object in my model I make a change to my specification I can quickly identify these discrepancies and fix them. In the example below note the addition on the 'Type A' suffix -
- If I select the Model tab from the top ribbon then select the issues tab I will see a list of any problems:
- A drop down arrow will display next to each warning, clicking this will show you the objects/families in you model affected
- Hovering over the object title will then give you some options to either update the objects parameters with the information from the specification, unlink to object and the clause in your specification or sync with the model to display the object on screen.
- You can also select the Fix All button to update all objects in the list with the updated information from your specification.
