A principle of good specification writing is to 'say it once and in the right place'. 'Consolidate' identifies identical clauses and allows you to consolidate them.

You should use ‘Consolidate’ to identify duplications in your Uniclass specification and consolidate them.

Summary of 'Consolidate’

  • The ‘Consolidate’ tab displays groups of identical clauses in the specification and allows you to combine them.
  • You can review the clauses prior to deciding to consolidate them.
  • ‘Consolidate‘ is enabled for the ‘Uniclass – Work sections ’-based specifications only.
  • You must have ‘Contributor’ (or above) permission on the specification to use ‘Consolidate.’ The ‘Consolidate’ tab is hidden from users with ‘Designer’ or ‘Reader’ permission.

Background

  • In the ‘Uniclass – Work sections’ content set it is easy to create identical clauses except for different ‘Prefixes’, ‘Titles’, and ‘Suffixes’. Avoiding unnecessary clause duplication keeps the specification as short as possible.
  • ‘Consolidate’ is an improvement on the ‘Spec check’ report, which identifies duplicate clauses but requires you to consolidate them manually.
