You can add links to text, suggestions, guidance, tables and notes.
Reference documents
To add a reference document link:
- Select the text you want to become the link (Display text).
- In the toolbar, select the link icon. Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl/Cmd +K:
- You will see an advanced Add link dialog:
- When the dialog opens, we search the publication index for documents that match your display text.
- To check the document is the one you need, select the document title. The publication index page for that document will open in a new browser tab.
- To choose a document as your link, select the row or the radio button on the left end of that row.
- Select the Add button in the bottom right of the dialog.
Note: Your link will not be saved until you save the whole clause/article/section.
Search
We search for results based on your display text.
If you don’t see the document you need, update the search term and try again.
Results
The results are ordered by title by default.
Sort the results by selecting the column titles.
Filters
When you add a new link, the status filter is set to Current by default.
When you update an existing link, the status filter is set to Any status by default.
External websites
To add a website link:
- Open the Add link dialog as before.
- At the bottom of the dialog, paste the URL of your website into the Address field.
- Select the Add button.
Old CIS links
In the UK CAWS work sections content, you might see a link that shows a pop-up of document information when viewed in a Chorus project:
This is an old link to CIS (Construction Information Service).
We don’t use this kind of link anymore. Instead, we use the reference documents links that go via the Publication Index, as shown at the top of this page.
Please replace these old CIS links with new reference document links where appropriate.
Known limitations
We are currently working to improve this feature.
Currently the add link dialog does not:
- Show the reference documents related to the current link.
- Order results by relevance.
- Use traditional search power tools, such as “Whole phrase” or Whole AND phrase.
- Understand document part numbers such as BS 1234-1.
- Have more filters, such as Publisher or Year.
- Have a curated list of websites.
- Link to NBS content such as general guidance or other clauses.
- Immediately show changes made by the library team. The data currently refreshes around 7pm each evening.
