Restructure clause is the quickest and cleanest way to reorder the rows within a clause.
- Quicker than adding and deleting rows.
- The guidance is moved for you.
- The end results are clearer and less disruptive for the customers when they receive the update.
How to restructure a clause
Rather than moving rows within the editor, clauses are restructured in a dedicated restructure area.
To open the restructure clause dialog box:
- In the central editor panel, select the clause you want to restructure. This will check out the clause exclusively to you.
- To the left of the clause title is the 3 dot clause menu. Open the menu and select Restructure this item.
- The Restructure clause dialog box opens:
Move rows
There are two ways to move the rows around:
- Drag and drop
- The toolbar at the bottom of the dialog box
These methods can be used on their own or in combination to move the row to exactly where you need it.
When rows are moved, the row numbers will automatically update as required to reflect the new clause structure.
Rows that belong together will move together. For example, if you move row 3, row 3.1 will move with it at the same time.
Rows can only be moved into a valid location. For example, a level 1 row cannot be moved left.
Drag and drop
You can move a row several places in a single action by dragging it from its current location and dropping it into a new place.
- Select the row you wish to move and keep the left mouse or trackpad button pressed.
- With the button held, move your cursor to the new position in the clause structure. The row will move with your cursor. As you move over the clause structure, gaps will appear between the other rows to indicate where you can drop the moving row.
- When you release the mouse button, the row will drop into the new position. An unsaved changes marker line will be shown on the right-hand end of any moved rows.
Toolbar
In the bottom left-hand corner of the restructure clause dialog box are 4 buttons:
- Move this row up
- Move this row down
- Move this row left
- Move this row right
Select the row you want to move and then select the buttons accordingly.
If a move is invalid, the relevant button will be disabled:
Discard your changes
If you don’t want to keep the changes you’ve made, press the Discard button in the bottom right-hand corner of the restructure clause dialog box. This will close the dialog box and the clause rows will remain in their previous order.
Save your changes
The Restructure clause dialog does not save your changes directly. Restructure changes are saved with the clause.
To save your restructure changes:
- Close the Restructure clause dialog box.
- Select the Save button to the right of the clause title.
Note: Any other unsaved changes to suggestions, guidance and other rows within this clause will also be saved. How is the clause represented in the restructure dialog box?
The latest version of the clause is represented. This includes any unsaved changes you might have.
Rather than display the clause in full, the clause structure is shown in a simplified way.
For all rows
- The current row numbers are shown.
- As you move the rows, the numbers will update to reflect the new row order.
- Any row indents are respected, so that you can clearly see rows that belong together.
- Suggestions are not displayed.
- Parked rows are shown in the correct row order and are shown as parked.
- When the text is long, it will be truncated with ellipsis as needed in this dialog. This is only for presentation purposes – the full text of the row remains unchanged.
- If the row if empty, you'll see (blank)
Sentence-style rows
- For row that are just text, the text is shown in full.
- For rows that are a mix of text and inserts
- The text is shown in full
- The inserts are shown as [___]
- For rows that are just inserts, the insert is shown as [___]
Key value pair rows
- Only the title of the row is shown.
