Reusing masters content in projects is done by copying it.

When you copy between a project and a project there is no link created between the two. They are independent sets of information and changing one has no bearing on the other. With masters, a link is created between it and the project.

A link between the master and the project is set so that you can always refer back to where the information came from.

When a system or section is copied from a master this is displayed as a rosette icon in the editor. Clicking on the rosette will tell you which master the content originated from and clicking the link will open this master in a new tab.

Setting and clearing the master link

The masters link is set and cleared to allow information to flow back and forth between masters and projects. Here are the combinations and when the link is set and cleared.

Copying something (such as a section or system) from a:

  1. Project to a project - no link
  2. Project to a master - no link
  3. Master to a project - link set
  4. Master to a project to a master - link is set then cleared
  5. Master to a project to a project - link is set then retained to the master in the second project
  6. Master to a master - link is set

Visibility of the master link

Masters are a resource for organization users but not guests. The rosette icon and menu showing the master is only visible to organization users. Guests, external collaborators invited onto the project, will not see the rosette.
